Who is Eligible to Join?Top of the Page
You can join if you are entitled to Medicare Part A and enrolled in Medicare Part B and live in the service area. However, individuals with End Stage Renal Disease are generally not eligible to enroll in an America's 1st Choice plan unless they are members of our organization and have been since their dialysis began.
Can I choose my doctors?Top of the Page
Network PFFS Plans: A Medicare Advantage Private Fee-for-Service plan works differently than a Medicare supplement plan. We have network providers (that is, providers who have signed contracts with our plan) for all services covered under Original Medicare. These providers have already agreed to see members of our plan. If your provider is not one of our network providers, then the provider is not required to agree to accept the plans terms and conditions, of payment, they may choose not to provide health care services to you, except in emergencies. If this happens, you will need to find another provider that will accept our terms and conditions of payment. Providers can find the plans terms and conditions of payment on our website at this link
PPO Plans: Each plan has a list, called a “network”, of doctors, specialists, hospitals and other providers that you may go to. Each plan gives you flexibility to go to doctors, specialists or hospitals that aren’t on the plan’s list, but it will usually cost more. With a PPO, limited services may require referral or authorizations. Members who obtain services from providers outside the plan’s network may have higher cost sharing responsibility except for emergency or urgent care.
What about prescription drug coverage?Top of the Page
America’s 1st Choice has plans with and without Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. As a member of Patriot (PFFS) and Presidential (PFFS) you can receive prescription drug coverage by joining another Prescription Drug Plan. You can only join one Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. As a member of our Patriot Plus (PFFS) and Presidential Plus (PFFS) and Ambassador Plus (PPO) Plans, you will have Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage
Why Medicare Advantage?Top of the Page
Original Medicare pays for many health care services and supplies, but it often leaves over 20% for you to pay. Many people instead choose to receive coverage under a Medicare Advantage Health Plan. With a Medicare Advantage Plan, you may receive more coverage than Original Medicare and don't need a Medicare Supplement policy.
Disclaimer: (1) Not all plans are available in every county. (2) You must continue to pay your Medicare Part B premiums (or balance of Part B premiums on Part B premium refund Plans) even if the Plan premium is zero it could take up to 3 months for this change to take effect and you will be held responsible for the Part B premiums. Part B premium refund amount varies by plan and county. (3) You may be able to get Extra Help to pay for your prescription drug premiums and costs. To see if you qualify for extra help, call: 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048, 24 hours a day/7 days a week; The Social Security Office at 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
